About Tough Viking Slottsskogen

Tough Viking Slottsskogen is one of Sweden’s most popular obstacle course races, offering a unique combination of challenging obstacles, hilly terrain, and a classic urban park environment. The course winds through the green areas of Slottsskogen and features water crossings, strength-based obstacles, and technical sections that challenge your endurance, strength, and mental toughness.

The race suits both experienced OCR athletes and recreational runners who want to push their limits in an inspiring and energetic atmosphere.

Registration

Registration is completed online via Tough Viking’s official registration page. You can choose to participate either individually or as part of a team. During registration, you also select your start time, subject to availability.
Once your registration is completed, you will receive a confirmation by email. Closer to race day, your start time and bib number will also be sent via SMS.

Spots are limited – we recommend registering early to secure your place.

How to Register

When registering, select your class under Open in the registration system:

  • Open Female (1 participant)
  • Open Male (1 participant)
  • Duo Mix (2 participants)
  • Duo Female (2 participants)
  • Duo Male (2 participants)
  • Trio (3 participants)
  • Team (4 participants or more)

To compete in Duo, Trio, or Team, all participants must:

  • choose the same team name, and
  • select the same start group.

All participants will automatically be placed into the correct age group based on their date of birth.

Individual Class

Open – Individual

For those who want to experience Tough Viking at their own pace.

  • All obstacles must be completed.
  • Assistance from other participants is allowed.

If an obstacle is not completed, a penalty loop must be completed.

Team Classes

Duo Mix (2 participants)

A team consisting of one female and one male participant.

  • Obstacles may be completed individually or with assistance from each other.
  • At least one participant must successfully complete the obstacle.
  • If neither participant completes the obstacle, both must complete a penalty loop.
  • The team result is the average time of both participants.
  • Both participants also receive an individual finishing time.

Duo Female (2 participants)

A team consisting of two female participants.

  • Obstacles may be completed individually or with assistance from each other.
  • At least one participant must successfully complete the obstacle.
  • If neither participant completes the obstacle, both must complete a penalty loop.
  • The team result is the average time of both participants.
  • Both participants also receive an individual finishing time.

Duo Male (2 participants)

A team consisting of two male participants.

  • Obstacles may be completed individually or with assistance from each other.
  • At least one participant must successfully complete the obstacle.
  • If neither participant completes the obstacle, both must complete a penalty loop.
  • The team result is the average time of both participants.
  • Both participants also receive an individual finishing time.

Trio (3 participants)

A team of three participants, any gender mix.

  • All participants must complete all obstacles.
  • Team members may assist each other on obstacles.
  • If a participant fails an obstacle, they must complete a penalty loop.
  • The team result is the average time of all three participants.
  • All participants also receive an individual finishing time.

Team (4 participants or more)

A team of at least four participants, any gender mix.

  • There is no upper limit to the number of participants per team (minimum four).
  • All participants must complete all obstacles.
  • Team members may assist each other on obstacles.
  • If a participant fails an obstacle, they must complete a penalty loop.

The team result is based on the average time of the four fastest participants in the team.

Age Requirements & Liability

Open Class: Participants must be at least 12 years old to compete.
Minors: All participants under the age of 18 (in both Open Class and Competition Class) must present a signed parental waiver at check-in.
The waiver is provided during registration.

Mandatory Equipment – Shoes

All participants must wear appropriate running or training shoes during the race.
Shoes with metal spikes are not permitted, as they may damage obstacles and endanger other participants.
Use of metal-spiked shoes will result in disqualification and removal from the race without refund.

Bib Pickup & Registration

Pick up your start envelope at the black Tough Viking tents marked “Start Number” in Slottsskogen, near Linnéplatsen.
Your start envelope includes:

  • Participant headband (headband with unique number)
  • Timing chip
  • Bag check tag

Opening hours:

Friday: 11:00–18:00
Saturday: From 09:00

You must collect your envelope no later than 1 hour before your personal start time and present valid identification (digital ID is accepted).
If you are collecting for a friend, a written authorization or their physical ID is required.
Your start time will be sent by SMS a few days before the race. Please show the SMS when collecting your envelope.

Race Office & Information

The Race Office is located in a black tent next to the bib pickup area. Here you can get help with questions and practical matters on site.

Warm-Up

SATS will host a group warm-up 10 minutes before each start.

Shop & Products

A shop is available in the start and finish area where you can purchase:

  • Tough Viking x Björn Borg products
  • Merrell Tough Viking OCR shoes
  • Tegera gloves

Friday: 11:00–18:00
Saturday: 09:00–17:00

Timing Chip

The timing chip must be worn around your right ankle for optimal timing accuracy.
The chip must be shown to officials when entering the start corral.

Bag Check (Cloakroom)

A staffed bag check area is available where you can leave your bag during the race.
We are not responsible for valuables.
Your bag tag number corresponds to your start number and is included in your start envelope.
Bags are available on site if needed.

Changing Facilities

Basic changing tents are available in the start and finish area at Linnéplatsen.
Please note that no shower facilities are available after the race.

Toilets

Toilets are available in the start and finish area.

Course Navigation

The course is clearly marked with Tough Viking tape throughout the entire route.

Water Temperature

Water temperature is approximately 7–8°C.
Ice tanks are around 0°C.
👉 Bring warm dry clothes after the race – this is very important.

Water Stations

There are three water stations:

  • Two along the course
  • One at the finish area

Unfortunately, it is not possible to refill personal water bottles on site.

Medical Support

Medical services are available in the start and finish area.
An ambulance and mobile medical staff on ATVs will be on site.
All medical personnel have access to defibrillators.

Penalty Laps

If you fail an obstacle, you must complete penalty laps, similar to biathlon rules.

Five laps around red cones apply for all obstacles.

The penalty is designed to be more time-consuming and demanding than completing the obstacle.

Prize Ceremony

The prize ceremony will take place at the start area at 11:30.

Food Trucks

Several food trucks and coffee vendors will be available for food and drinks.

Parking & Transport

Parking in the area is very limited.
We strongly recommend using public transportation.
