GETTING READY FOR THE RACE

  • You are up for a real challenge that will test your strength and mind to the max
  • It is a totally different deal to run 8-15 km on flat ground than to participate in a Tough Viking race where the course is not only hilly and have 20-30 obstacles around the course.
  • Arm and grip strength is needed on several climbing obstacles. Train like roman rings and rope climbing.
  • Take it at your own pace and do not rush away the first few kilometres as the race is long
  • The course is manned from start to finished so you can always ask for help and advise

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS & PRE RACE PREPARATIONS

General

  • Go through the map and the course including the obstacles so you know what you are up for
  • Each obstacle has 1-2 obstacle captains (in vests) and they can help you with tips regarding the best way to claim the obstacle
  • You can always choose not to complete an obstacle and instead do an alternative “punishment” as penalty runs.  The obstacle captain will instruct you.
  • You participate at your own risk

IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT

  • Each obstacle has 1-2 obstacle captains that are equipped with radio and can call for our mobile health care professional teams that can help you within minutes
  • At the start/finish area we have healthcare tents that are manned with health care professionals that assist you with everything from smaller band aids to more serious cases. They also have warm fleece blankets if you are cold.
  • We have a fully equipped event ambulance at the start/finish area.
  • Each obstacle that has water is also manned with a trained rescue swimmer
  • Help each other and call for help if you see something

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING & GEAR

  • It is wise to use long legged tights and long armed tight sweaters to protect your body
  • You will be wet most part of the race so the clothing should be tight and made of functional fabrics (stay away from cotton)
  • Make a good shoe selection: the course is muddy, you will run through water and some obstacles as the running ramp are slippery
  • We recommend to use gloves to improve your grip (we sell at the start if you do not have)
  • Some participants choose to use a protective helmet. If you use one, be sure that it is light and functional
  • After the race: have warm and dry clothing to change to
